itunes wont let me backup my iPhone 5

My phone says it hasn't backed up to iCloud since 11/15/15. My mac says the last backup was on 1/2/15. When my iPhone 5 is connected to wifi or my mac, it won't complete the backup, it gives the message "The latest backup could not be completed." I tried to do a backup to iTunes and it gives the message " iTunes could not back up the iPhone because an error occurred." WHAT ERROR IS IT REFERING TO?! Ive tried to reset the networks on my phone, logging out of iCloud and then signing back in and restarting my phone and my mac. somehow all but 116 of my photos were erased off of my phone in trying to get this right. Someone please help me 😟
