Percentage formula in numbers

I am struggling with a really simple formula.

I have a gross figure in one cell and need the next cell to have a deduction of 20%

I also can't seem to find the star symbol I have seen MAC numbers people using??? My forward slash symbol has also turned into a divide symbol?

if the gross value is in cell A1, then the formula would be:

=A1*0.8

the star symbol is the asterisk (shift + 8)

Hi Vicky,

In Numbers 3, the slash sign is converted to the divide sign.

Formula in D2 was entered as =B2/2

User uploaded file

Numbers 3 converts that to

=B2÷2

Or to give more clarity with a larger font,

=B2÷2

(dot over line over dot).

Formula in D3 was entered as

=B3*C3

Numbers 3 converts * to x

=B3×C3

Seconded. Very childish.
