I am experiencing checkboard like images when using my Mac mini 2010. What could be causing this?

This seems to occur every 6 months to a year or so. Could it be the HDMI cable?

Thanks

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

About NVRAM and PRAM

Could be a bad cable or poor connection or another problem. However, since it only occurs one or twice a gear it could just be a software glitch. Because it is infrequent, it if very very hard to determine the cause/corrective action
