I cannot Live Update my Max Total Security as I get the message "DB updates download failed!". Max Support also did not help at all. Disappointing. What to do?

Do yourself a favor and delete the application. Macs do not need AV applications and at best they will do no hard (but no good either) and at worst will corrupt your system/ OSX has built in protection. Your concerns are malware which requires user cooperation to install, not virus'.
