Why is VT-x disabled in Windows 10?

If I cold boot my MacBook Pro (late 2015) into Windows 10, VT-x shows as disabled. It seems that I have to boot to Mac OS X first, then reboot into Windows 10, which isn't very good.

Hi setantae,

The resources below explain the settings and process for using VT-x technology on your Mac.

Intel-based Macs: Using VT-x virtualization technology
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203296

You may notice that VT-x support is disabled when using some third-party applications on your Mac that utilize it (such as VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop).
You should also install any software updates available for any software not made by Apple. If the issue persists, contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Intel VT-x technology is enabled on Intel-based Macs. Make sure your Intel-based Mac has all available EFI updates installed; also update any third-party virtualization software.

This discussion thread provides additional information about working with Boot Camp:

If I reboot to Windows directly from Windows (bootcampoptions), I cannot launch avmin Hyper-V

You should always use System Preferences -> Startup Disk. It enables the CSM-BIOS layer. When you use the Option Key, Windows will come up, but underlying CSM-BIOS layer is not invoked. The Hyper-V depends on BIOS settings, it will only work when using the Startup Disk option.

Hello,

I did this:

I still get an error that my VT-x doesn't work. What should I try?

Thanks!

We have always had this issue with MacBook Pros over the years. Like the others have posted, the only solution that we've found so far is to boot first into OS-X, then do a warm restart into Windows. However, this no longer works with the new MBP 2016 model with TouchBar as it will hang indefinitely if Hyper-V is enabled, so this "fluke" has now become a serious issue. Apple and Microsoft need to resolve this issue.
