Trying to share ITunes library from old laptop (WindowsXP). Unable to successfully backup or download latest version of ITunes.

Our ITunes library is on an old laptop running WindowsXP. We want to stop using that computer and would like to move the ITunes library to our new laptop. However, due to age of current laptop, we seem unable to correctly backup ITunes, or to download most recent version of ITunes. Therefore, we cannot successfully Share the music. Have tried putting the music on our IPod and copying it over to the new laptop, but that has not worked either. We get an error message about source files. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to download and install iTunes 12.1.3 - this is an out of sequence release that enables iOS 9 support for XP and Vista users (though lacks Apple Music and other features added in 12.2/12.3, which require Windows 7 or later).

iTunes 12.1.3.6 / XP or Vista 32-bit: iTunesSetup.exe

If you simply want to transfer your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one, you don't need iTunes to support this unless you need to consolidate the library as a preliminary step - see How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support for more information.
