Q: Charging My Apple Watch

I'm going to ask a stupid question. If I can charge my Apple Watch from a USB port, then I can plug it into my iMac, or MacBook to charge it? What if I use the large plug from my iPad? Will any of these make the Apple Watch charge any faster?  Thank you in advance for your help! ...j...

    Hi

You can certainly charge your Apple Watch in any of those ways.

If plugging into mains power, ensure that you use a genuine Apple USB Power Adapter (or an Apple certified adapter). Besides the adapter that is supplied with the watch, the cable can be used - for example - with the Apple 12W (iPad) or 5W (iPhone) USB Power Adapter.

If charging via USB on your iMac or MacBook (with a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port), ensure that your computer remains on and awake and the cable is plugged directly into the computer (rather than into, for example, an external keyboard).

Whichever charging method and power source you use, the charging process will draw only the normal current that it needs.

The battery uses fast charging to reach 80% of capacity. It then uses slower, trickle charging (at a reduced current, to help extend battery lifespan) for the remaining 20%.

For Apple Watch, indicative charging times are around 1.5 hours to reach 80% or around 2.5 hours to reach 100% (times assume a starting level of 0%).

You may find it convenient to charge your battery overnight via mains power. Under normal operation, this will not harm the battery; charging will stop automatically when the battery is fully charged and will resume automatically if the battery level later drops sufficiently far.
