Why do some of my photos have the location and some do not?

I have an iMac, with OS X Yosemite and Photo V1 (209.52.0)

At one time when I viewed my photos on my iMac they included the location of the photo, such as the city. Recently my wife and I went to Europe and I took about 500 photo's with my iPhone. When we returned, I downloaded them onto to mu iMac, and when I view them it they do not include the location where I took the photos.

Any ideas?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

gps require a line of sight with the satellite like a sat discs does

if it can't get that it will inquire the location from the cellular network or wifi router it's connected to if it's not connected to any

or if the network or router does not provide a position then there will be no position on the photo
