Q: stuck key at login

My mac bluetooth keyboard frequently acts like a key is stuck at the login screen. It only happens at the login screen and there is no physically stuck keys. I have to turn off then on the keyboard to fix it. sometimes I have to do more than once. Any ideas on how to fix it?

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Try resetting the SMC 2-3 times and see if that fixes the issue. If the reset don't help try any USB keyboard to determine if it's your BT keyboard or the Mac. If it's the keyboard, then replace it. Instructions for doing the SMC reset can be found in iMac SMC and PRAM reset

I got a usb keyboard and have turned off the bluetooth keyboard. It hasn't happened since I turned off the bluetooth keyboard. Do you think I should take the bluetooth keyboard to apple for an exchange?

I missed that you have a blue tooth keyboard, please disconnect the wired keyboard and follow the instructions in If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad aren't working as expected - Apple Support
