Why can't I enter password to buy more iCloud storage with iMac?

As the other user suggested, this very strange and irritating bug is fixed by going to another device - I used my iPhone - and updating the storage plan there instead. It's two years since this was posted and is still an ongoing issue even though I have a new MacBook Pro (spring 2017). Crazy!
