478gb of my Storage is taken up by "Other"?

I've been experiencing issues with my Macbook recently and I've found the root of the problem. 478gb on my hard drive is being taken up by "other"? It has resulted in the computer being very slow, some of my apps won't launch, and I can't download any new files. I have deleted the majority of the files on my computer to see what was causing it but have had no luck lowering the space that "other" is taking up. Anybody able to help? I've included a picture and I'm running OS X 10.9.5
