My iPhone 5 keeps freezing when I reply to whatsapp notifications on my home screen while my phone is locked. How can I stop that from happening?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling that app.
If that doesn't work, contact the app developer and ask or just check the reviews in the App store to see if other are experiencing the same.
