Q: Can't boot into windows after resizing partitions

I tried to resize my bootcamp and mac partitions recently

I cannot boot into windows now

Get an error about missing MBR

Do you think you could help me here?

I read about using GPT fdisk on another thread

These are the results I got from it

Wanted to check before doing anything

So I've got the exact same issue... 2013 Macbook Air with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and OS X El Capitan. Created a new partition in order to expand the Windows partition (to give me a bit more room for Win 10 upgrade) and boom, Windows is gone from the boot menu. Drive details are below. There are a couple of external memory cards (USB and SD) currently attached as /disk1 and /disk2 - ignore those. Can you advise how I can fix this? I've got GPT installed.

Yes, I got as far as your step 7 but then it asks (before setting a bootable flag):

Enter an MBR hex code (default AB)

What should I answer to that question?

It worked - thanks. Unfortunately my attempts to merge the Windows and untitled partitions have ended up killing Windows, so it looks like I'll have to reinstall anyway... :-(

You will need to use GParted and Windows Startup Repair to expand Windows. The Untitled partition should be converted to Free Space before you use GParted.

    Hi Loner T,

I bought my MacBook Pro late 2011, formatted the 750GB HD to (in this order) part1 125GB OS X and part2 500GB NTFS (for common storage) and part3 125GB Windows 7. And since then I kept upgrading both Mac OS and Win OS with no problem. Last night I bought 1TB SSD and used Mac OS X 10.10.5 Disk Utility version to format (in this order) part1 250GB OS X and part2 500GB NTFS (for common storage) and part3 250GB Windows 10. Installed Mac OS X 10.11.2 fresh on part1 and copy all content of part2 HD to part2 SSD and restored WinClone Image of part3 HD to part3 SSD.

Now Windows 10 can not boot.

Can you please help me to boot...

Can you post a new discussion and include the output of the following OSX Terminal commands? A new discussion will avoid confusion with the OP.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

i am looking to resize my windows partition ... i want to shrink it a little in order to make the os x partition larger.

im on el capitan and windows 10, is there a good/easy way to do this with the current tools available in each OS ?

if i have to mess with recreating mbr's and modifying system level files, perhaps a 3rd party app that does all that automatically for me would be useful ...

    any suggestions ?

i normally use clonezilla to clone my ssd image ... although i get the return error code 8 when i run first aid and always have to fix this b4 using clonezilla.

im not sure if that error is related to an ssd hardware failure or software issue ?

Look at Winclone of CampTune for BC cloning.
