My Ipod touch 5th Generation 16 GB just cut off. I do not remember it being close to dead. i was on a ride home from vacation using it and then it cut off and will not turn back on. I tried holding home/sleep and the power button down but that doesn't work nor does connecting to itunes works for me. I really want my ipod back.

Try the remaining actions of:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
