Q: Enhanced dictation not working

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with the Enhanced Dictation on El Capitan:

I’ve downloaded SpeechRecognitionCoreLanguage_en_US.pkg (612 MB) separately from this link:

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/55/13/031-1940/chpuvr2ntbhisy2em872b4j6 hsk71croja/SpeechRecognitionCoreLanguage_en_US.pkg

The package is installed and everything looks fine. I can locate the file in /System / Library/ Speech/ Recognizers/ SpeechRecognitionCoreLanguages.

But when I press Fn key twice, it tries to download it again! That’s frustrating!

Is there a solution for this problem.

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

    Hi TheH3ro,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with El Capitan. I'm a bit unclear why you manually downloaded the linked package; generally, after enabling Enhanced Dictation the OS will automatically download and install the necessary content. It will also do so after adding a new language. If you follow the process outlined in the following articles, does it attempt to download that content every time you use Dictation, or just the first time?

    Hi brenden dv,

    Thank you for your reply.

Actually the reason that convinced me to attempt to manually download the package was my poor internet connection; I tried several times the usual way but I couldn't tolerate the HYPER annoying "unexpected error" during the download process anymore. With the help of a download manager tool, that finally worked.

Now I'm wondering why the successfully installed package isn't working. The file can be located on El Capitan and I have even an update notice on my Appstore. When there is apparently no technical problem, what could possibly prevent the package of being recognized by the Enhanced Dictation. This is not just logical.

How can the problem be solved?

    Best regards
