airdrop not working iMac late 2009

Hi, airdrop is not working on my iMac. Why can I see it in finder but no contacts show up. Is my computer too old? I have read that you need 2012 or later. Is this right.

Apple don't make it very clear. They say late 2009 iMac does work!
