Can't upload version 10.8 for my MacBook Pro

I would like to download some newer software but it requires at least version 10.8. I've tried to get that for my MacBook Pro, but am told it's not available. Is there some way I can upgrade my system so it can use 10.8?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Back up your data,check your applications for compatibility, and download El Capitan from the Mac App Store.

You can try purchasing a download code for Mountain Lion here. It does cost money while El Capitan is free.
