iPhone's photos not showing up in Photos 1.2

Usually, after plugging my iPhone 6 Plus into my MacBook Pro, the Photos app opens, and all of my photos on my iPhone can be seen and are all ready to be imported into my Mac. But, after updating my iPhone to the latest iOS (9.1) & my Mac to the latest OS (El Capitan), none of my photos that are on my iPhone are showing up in the Photos app. The Photos app is telling me that I have "No Photos" on my iPhone, when actually I have about 1,910 photos. I've tried rebooting my iPhone/Mac in hope that rebooting my devices will fix the problem. Unfortunately, it doesn't. I am not sure if it's my Mac that is causing the problem, or my iPhone itself. Help!
