Q: iMac 27 Fan noise

Hi,

i have a 27" iMac (2013) and experience a chattering fan noise lately.

It's not constant and seems to happen more frequently when i run games or graphic intense apps.

So my guess would be that it is the GPU fan? Does that Sound like a mechanical defect or is there any proper way to determine if it is?

i also tried resetting SMC as suggested for the other fan noise Topics but that didn't help.

i also installed the app to control the fan, but even when i put it to Maximum via that app doesn't provoke that chattering noise.

That is normal if you play games. Games tax the processor and it causes fans work faster and louder. Nothing special.

It's not just that the fan goes to 90 or 100%, ist a quite loud knattering as if the fan was hitting something.
It wasn't like that the past 2 years and now suddenly started.

While games and graphics intensive apps will cause higher fan speeds a chattering noise is not normal. You should make an appointment and have your iMac checked out.
