Q: can't export images from Photos

My photos are all stored on a hard drive from my previous Mac.

I can view all my images in Photos, however when I try and export some images (e.g. to a folder on the desktop), I keep receiving the error : "The export operation failed to create a file for the image identified below: IMG1234 Could not load image".

Does this mean that some of the images aren't saved properly on the hard drive, and I can't access them (even though I can view them??)?

Or is there a way to rectify this? The computer the images were originally stored on will no longer turn on so I can't reload them.

iMac, iOS 9.1

I recently had the same problem, and I discovered the reason for it. The problem occurs when two or more files in the original iPhoto library had the same file name. The link with the master image file gets lost when the library is converted to Photos. The master files are still there, but cannot be accessed by Photos. I solved the problem exactly as described by léonie.
