How do I use ken burns in a video freeze frame?

I have a video clip. I move the play head to a point in the clip and split the clip. I then make a freeze frame from the end of the first part of the split clip. Here is where I run into my problem. While the freeze frame is playing, I want to zoom into a region of the freeze frame, e.g. a face in a crowd, I want to remain zoomed in for a period of time and then zoom back out to full frame, then continue with the rest of the split frame. How do I do this? I was trying to use Ken Burns but could not make it work, I could zoom in but not hold the zoom, then zoom out. Thanks.

You do this using three consecutive copies of the freeze frame. Set up the Ken Burn's effect in the freeze frame to do the zoom in. Now add a copy of this clip and reverse the start and end frames of the Ken Burns effect by clicking on the double arrows in the rightmost Style button (see screenshot).

Now add a copy of either clip in between the two clips and adjust the large Ken Burns frame so that it overlays the smaller one. This gives you the zoomed-in pause. Adjust the duration of the three clips and you are done.

Thanks GeeD,

I guess I don't fully understand some of the fine points of iMovie. Different stuff kept happening, like the freeze frame going totally black while I was trying to adjust the end box size/location for the Ken Burns effect. By trial and error, I finally got the desired result.
