How do I delete "ghost" files in my pictures folder?

I'm running a mid-2013 MacBook air w/ 120 Gb hard drive, withEl Capitan. I appear to have 14 Gb of photos in my picture file, but cannot either see the photos nor delete the hidden images. I have tried virtually all the solutions here, under both the Photos and the old iPhotos app. Nothing seems to help and I could really use the disk space.

Any great ideas? Thanks.

Do you mean, your Pictures folder in your home folder has a size of 14GB? Or what do you mean by "Pictures file"?

Where are you seeing this size? Is that what you are seeing in the Info panel, when you select the Pictures folder in theFInder and open the info panel with File > Get Info?

What are you seeing, when you open the Pictures folder in the Finder?

I have tried virtually all the solutions here, under both the Photos and the old iPhotos app.

What have you tried? It is hard to suggest something new, if we do not know what you tried.

Check with a Terminal command for invisible files in your Pictures folder.

Launch the Terminal.app. It is in the folder Applications > Utilities

Copy and paste this command into the Terminal window and hit return:

ls -ail ~/Pictures

It will show a directory listing of all files and folders in the Pictures folder.

What is the result? Paste it here.
