MacBook Pro wifi hardware not installed after El Capitan update

Hi,

I logged on to my macbook this morning to find that I had a grey wifi symbol with an x through it saying 'wifi: no hardware installed'. I'm taking it into the Apple Store to be looked at in a few days, but just wondering if anyone in this community has experienced a similar problem that has an easy fix so that I can get back up and running. It was all working fine up until this morning.

IVe updated to El Capitan - 10.11.1

I have a Macbook Pro Retina, 13 inch, late 2012

THanks in advance

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

It means that either Wi-Fi drivers are corrupted or that your Wi-Fi card stopped working.

A good way to find out what the problem is is to start up in OS X Recovery by holding down both Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up. Once your Mac has turned on, look at the Wi-Fi icon at the top right corner and see if you can choose any Wi-Fi network. If so, reinstall OS X.

However, if you cannot choose any network there, there's likely a hardware issue, so you have to take your Mac to an Apple Retail Store or reseller to get the Wi-Fi card replaced.

Hey Mende1,

Just wondering if you add some more insight to my situation. I have had to run the OS X reinstall three times now. Each time the laptop is working fine, then one morning I'll turn it on and as if overnight it has gone back to the "wifi not installed status". Each time I re-boot using Command + R it shows that I have wifi.

I've now updated to El Capitan 10.11.2 with my most recent reboot.

Would you possibly know why this may be happening, or what may be corrupting my wifi settings?

Thanks in advance for you time and help.

Cheers

Nic
