Keynote presentation; when hit play button, I want the presenter display to appear?

I have Keynote 6.6. I set up my Presenter Display on how I want it to look for my presentation on a projector (not yet hooked up). I assume that when I'm ready to present, I hit the play button on the tool bar. When i do, it just goes into play mode. I want to see the 'presenter display' that shows my notes, etc. but I don't, it just goes into that play mode. When I, for example, hit the Rehearse Slideshow button, it works fine. What am I doing wrong? Could it be because I have to be plugged into the projector or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks.

(I'm on Mac 10.11 upgraded to Yosemite)

with the projector connected;

  1. switch mirroring off in: System Preferences > Displays
  2. Keynote preferences > Slideshow: select the option for: Enable Presenter Display

Rehearse Slideshow will show the presenter display to allow setting up the presenter tools

When in Play, a second display (the projector) must be connected to enable showing the Presenter Display.

Does this mean that the Presenter view showing the next slide and all the notes will be available on the laptop and the full view will be projected.

By default, Keynote will show the presentation on the projector (external display) and Presenter Display on the Mac.

If presenter display shows on the projector, press the X key on the keyboard to swap over, the setting will be remembered.

Hello,

That is never the case for me. (Using Keynote 6.6.1). Powerpoint does it flawlessly though.

The only way I can see Presenter Display is through clicking menu: Play/Rehearse Slideshow.

"Enable Presenter Display" is activated.

I have no option for turning on/off mirroring. All I see is a drop down menu in System Preferences/Displays where I can choose either "Built-in display" or "Epson" projetor. Choosing either one does not activate the Presenter Display.

Rehearse Slideshow is a tool to allow the user to view Presenter Display when a second monitor is not connected.

Rehearse Slideshow is not used to Play a presentation or set up presenter display.

"Enable Presenter Display" is activated.

Enable Presenter Display must be selected in Keynote > Preferences > Slideshow if presenter display is to be used when Keynote is in Play

I have no option for turning on/off mirroring.

The option for mirror displays is located here: Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement

Do these steps have to be performed everytime Keynote goes into Play mode?

Why can't Keynote just have only one step which is Enable Presenter Display . If the user checks this setting, it means only one thing. No reason to fiddle withSystem Preferences.

This could be a one time setting, but only if display settings in system preferences are never changed.

However users want to switch mirroring back on again when:

  • they want to see a Keynote presentation on both the local display and a large screen at the same time
  • using other applications such as QuickTime player where showing video on both a local and an external display is required. If mirroring is switched off, one screen will be blank

Why can't Keynote just have only one step which is Enable Presenter Display .

As things stand at this time, Keynote is unable to change system preferences.
