Pages isn't saving the link to my recent documents anymore when I go to reopen them with File / Open Recent. It now just says "Clear Menu". In the past it was very handy to be able to quickly get back into a recent document without having to click File / Open and then dig for it.
Any advice on how to get Pages to keep "Open Recent" documents again?

Quit Pages. Quit System Preferences. Shut your Mac down. Power on. Set the recent items again in System Preferences, and then quit that Application. Pages may not show any recent items until you accumulate them again. My El Capitan 10.11.1 works just fine with recent items.
Same here! I can't get it to stick. Why doesn't apple just fix this bug? It happens to me over and over and over! It is making me angry. And what is up with losing all my music in iTunes. I am a diehard Mac lover and I'm about pushed over the edge!
Open Recent Items is managed through System Preferences : General Panel : Recent Items selector.
Thanks Viking. I see that and I click a number (say "20") and then close the window. When I reopen the window the setting is set back at "none". Ugh.
PS - any other changes that I make in System Preferences / General Panel sticks. However "Recent Items" keeps going back to "none" when I close out and reopen.....
