Q: Macbook shuts off when brought out of sleep mode

I suspect it might be labeled as a power issue, but not sure. For two times today, I had put my macbook to sleep on several occasions as I tend to work and move a lot. One time, I brought my macbook on out of sleep mode, and as I was about to log in, the screen suddenly turns dark. I attempt to power it on, and I notice the "white light" on the rim of the macbook blink and a beeping noise sound. So I hold the power button to try rebooting the computer, and the macbook seem to turn on like normal, and I am able to work. When I put the macbook to sleep again and boot it up later on, the problem occurs again, and I am forced to repeat the process. The third run around, I decide to use disk utility to diagnose for any problems with the hardware, and find none. I've yet to do an SMC reset or disk check-up from restart, but I'm wondering if this is a problem I should have diagnosed, or if there's a simpler way to resolve it. As best as I can tell, the only application I keep running while I put the macbook to sleep is firefox, as I regularly use the browser for work. If anyone has had a similar problem, please tell me your solutions for this.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Hello TheArashi,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that sporadically when you wake your Mac from sleep, the screen turns dark and you see a white light with a beeping noise. So far your only resolution has been to restart the Mac, but the issue has returned.

To begin troubleshooting, as you suggested in your original question, I would reset the SMC as well as the PRAM. If you need them, instructions for both processes can be found in the following articles.

OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM

If the issue continues, can you tell me more about these beeps? If you continue to hear these beeps, take a look at the following article for information on what they mean.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the advice.

I had resolved this this a few weeks ago: I had reset the SMC, and I don't seem to be having the problem anymore. System boots normally when brought out of sleep mode, and I have yet to experience the same problems as I did before. As a precaution, I had also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, as I had suspect the active browser might had been causing the problem. I don't believe I need to reset the PRAM, but if I do, do you have instructions for OS X Mountain Lion, or will the steps for OS X Yosemite work as well? Again, thanks for replying to my question.

    That's great!

I'm really glad to hear that this problem has been resolved for you! As far as the PRAM reset goes, the steps are the exact same should you need to use them.

    Have a great day!
