Q: Lag on videos on late 2008 Macbook.
Recently I have been experiencing considerable lag on some video playback on my late-2008 Macbook (the metal one). Processor 2.0GHz. Upgraded RAM to 8gb and upgraded HDD to 1TB with 300GB used. OSX10.10.3
The main issue I have is with high quality video. Quicktime lags very badly when trying to play it. 1080 is usually ok but anything bigger is unplayable. Even when I convert 2.7K video to a H.264 that has a small file size but with the same ratio there will be extreme lag.
Streaming some online video is a problem, notably live feeds eg xfinity live tv. Non-live feeds such as Netflix and YouTube are ok. I initially thought it was the graphics card but I tried another Macbook that was released in 2009 and it worked perfectly. Everything else on the laptop runs perfectly. I never get the spinning wheel that I see on other laptops and it's generally very fast. It's just frustrating that video is a problem.
If anyone can give me a pointer as to if its its just too old or if it is indeed a laptop problem and what that might be I would be extremely grateful. Many thanks in advance.
MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
