Source Apple Certified Pre-Owned iPhone 5, iPhone 5s in Europe

User uploaded file

I just photographed these on the European continent in a mom and pap mobile shop. Shrink-wrapped. The shop assistant could tell it for sure sure, but maybe they are from the UK. There were also 5s models, just not so photogenic than the 5.

The question is, if I want a reliable source for these, not the mom and pap mobile reseller, which is a good place to buy these anywhere (in Europe, or possibly elsewhere, too).

Other OS, null

Look on the UK Apple Store - https://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/ or go to the bottom of the store page and change to whatever country you like.

And if you specifically mean certified pre-owned iPhone's, there is no such thing at all. Apple does NOT sell refurbished iPhones at retail, nor do they authorize anyone to do so. Individual companies may sell "certified" pre-owned but you would have to ask them what the heck they actually mean by that. Certified pre-owned iPhones are NOT available from Apple nor from any Apple Authorized reseller.

The only legitimate source of "pre-owned" iPhones in the retail market would be carriers who offer their own in-house refurbishment (which is NOT Apple factory refurbishment). But they should not be packaging the devices to appear as if direct from Apple.

The fact they are even printing that on boxes apparently meant to mimic authentic Apple refurbished products makes me think they are pure illegal scam artists.

Yes, I mean exactly that. Or else, why would I put these words in the very subject line? 😝

there is no such thing at all.

Maybe. Then what do you think about the photo I took? Why would someone fake an Apple packaging to sell real iPhones in it at an otherwise reasonable price? This doesn't add up.

Lok, you are free to believe whatever you like. But Apple has NEVER sold refurbished or pre-owned iPhones at retail. The only way to ever get a non factory new iPhone direct from Apple was as a service unit, which were only available as OEM factory refurbished devices under in-warranty or out of warranty exchange units, NOT sold by Apple or any Apple Authorized reseller.

So whatever those phones are (and I don't really care what the sellers motivation is) they are NOT Apple Authorized refurbished or pre-owned or anything else since Apple does NOT sell iPhones that way and never has.

For all I know they could be simply stolen iPhones, cleverly packaged up to look like some sort of "official" pre-owned offering to sell to any unsuspecting consumer who walks in the door. Scams like that are a dime a dozen around the world.

And the fact that they were selling bogus iPads within days of the original iPads introduction in Hong Kong, packaged in "certified by Apple" should tell you something, doesn't it? You have been told:

1). Apple does not sell or package " certified pre-owned" anything.

2). The phones are probably a scam

3). If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

In the end you are free to believe and buy what you wish; your money, your loss.

It's not Hong Kong; it's Yurop. Why would the store sell legit Samsungs et al., with legit iPhones for full price next to these - as you say - fake, refurb iPhones for ~90% of the price? It just doesn't add up to me. Also, there are strong consumer protection laws in Europe (maybe stronger than in the US? I don't know!). If even a small, mom and pap shop would sell counterfeit/crap in a major shopping mall in a major city anywhere in the EU, it couldn't be able to do it for long before it would be shut down by the authorities.

Yes, I understand there are maybe 10 or so authorized resellers for Apple products (in the US).

On the contrary, let's see some real world examples:

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPhone-5s-Unlocked-Cellphone/dp/B00F3J4B5S

[As of writing, SIM free version] Ships from and sold by PRIME ELECTRONICS.

Lifetime Positive: 95% - fully backed by Amazon USA - in fact this seller fulfills the orders for the main ASIN code for this particular iPhone model.

http://www.amazon.de/Apple-Smartphone-Retina-Touchscreen-Megapixel-Spacegrau/dp/ B00F8JHGXM

[As of writing, SIM free version] Ships from and sold by LivingTronics.

Lifetime Positive: 99% - fully backed by Amazon Germany - in fact this seller fulfills the orders for the main ASIN code for this particular iPhone model.

How about a MacBook Air? http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MJVE2LL-13-inch-Laptop/dp/B00VJ1P7TS

[As of writing] Sold by Normandy Direct and Fulfilled by Amazon.

100% positive lifetime (13 total ratings) - New seller but still; fully backed by Amazon USA.

Etc.

Disclaimer: The thread is not necessarily about I want toy save a few bucks on Apple products. It's much more about learning about how commerce works in real life. There are all kinds of things possible. I know more about Europe than the US. It's full of shady grey markets. Not Eastern Europe; Western Europe.

Regardless of what you wish to be true or are fishing for, there simple is and has never been, any such thing as an Apple certified pre-owned iphone for sale from a legitimate retail reseller. I honestly don't care what the sellers motivation is, their source is, their business "model" is. You asked is it legitimate, and NO it is NOT.

As far as Apple authorized resellers go, any and EVERY SINGLE one is listed on Apple's web site at https://locate.apple.com/ under the reseller link at the bottom of the Apple web site page (adjust accordingly for your country) and if they are NOT listed there, they are NOT an Apple Authoriized reseller, no matter what they may say or advertise to you.

Buy from whomever you like, it's your money. But there IS NO SUCH THING as an Apple AUTHORIZED certified pre-owned iPhone.

So I am done with this thread. You want an unbelievable deal to be believeable, and it is NOT. But spend your money as you wish.

It is irrelevant whether it is HK, Europe, the US, India, wherever. My point is that there are gray market stores that sell questionable goods along with legitimate ones everywhere in the world. I picked HK because it was an example that I personally saw. Your real world examples of Amazon are pointless as Amazon (and its resellers) are not an authorized Apple distributors. You have already been pointed as to where you can buy legitimate, authorized Apple goods and you have been told that there is no such thing as Apple certified pre owned. Your question has been answered. You are free to do what you wish and you have been warned. In the end, nobody here cares what you do.

Hmmm. [If I change countries] this one only shows brick and mortar stores. How about online only?

Let's pick a country, Germany. Just because the notion "made in Germany" has a high respect in the American psyche, as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong). Little lesser known fast it's a top shady country: http://www.financialsecrecyindex.com/

Let's see some online resellers of iPhone 6s on major German online shops (the aim was not to pick the cheapest, but pick respectable ones, by German standards):

https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/apple+iphone+6s+16gb+spacegrau+eu

http://www.mp3-player.de/index.php?page=article&ID=286685

http://www.comtech.de/Apple/iPhone-kaufen/iPhone-6s/Apple-iPhone-6s-16-GB-Spaceg rau-MKQJ2ZD/A-DE-Ware

http://www.redcoon.de/B623872-Apple-iPhone-6s-16GB-Gold_Handys-Smartphones

With all the PayPal, credit card and legal protection, and social media customer feedback on the shops, I'm pretty confident in buying from any of them, even though I don't speak much German.

Thanks for your attention.

Ok, so buy using the store, if you feel confident. Your question has been answered.
