how to install photos extensions

I have recently upgraded to El Capitan. I've updated from iPhoto to Photos. I'm not able to edit any photos in any way in the new Photos app. The help menu says that the Photos extensions are not installed. How do I install the Photos extensions? Shouldn't they have automatically installed with the app?

OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Hi talismanstudio,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Photos for Mac supports third-party extensions that can be installed separately (more info below), but you should see some built-in editing tools when you select an image and click "Edit" in the top-right of the Photos window.

If you don't see any options to edit photos, I would try again in a new user account as a test. This will help to determine if the Photos app itself is working correctly. How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac is a handy guide that will walk you through this test.

For more information about extensions, see Edit your photos using third-party extensions in Photos for OS X.

All the best.
