water damage drained battery

About 6 months ago I was camping and my Iphone 5c was dropped into a stream. It was taken out within 10 seconds but was soaking! I put it in rice about 10 minutes later and left it in it overnight. My phone was then charged the next day and has been working fine ever since.

However, 2 weeks ago for the first time I noticed my phone was running out of battery very quickly and was jumping percentages. I didn't think anything of it.

Then a few days later my charger broke and my mum bought me a cheap pound land charger which seemed to be charging my phone slowly but fine. However I woke up the next morning and my phone had been drained completely it was showing the red charging sign. I charged it with an apple charger and it went up to 40% but by the time i got to school half an hour later it was on 4%. I then tried to charge it when i got home and it would not charge at all, and the red charging sign had even disappeared.

It has been taken to a local repair shop who have placed in a new battery in it and the phone came to life but once again it drained the battery completely within the space of half an hour!

He said it seems to be getting hot in one place and it must be liquid damage. He has taken it apart but can't see exactly what is draining the battery.

I don't seem to be getting many answers. Can anyone suggest what exactly could be the problem and most importantly, Can it be fixed???

Thankyou very much

Then you had residual water still in it and the damage has occurred since then. Either way, it certainly sounds like it is fried now, and not surprising it is. If it was thoroughly soaked, even a week in a closed container with rice or desiccant might not have been long enough to remove all the moisture, and corrosion would have been steadily at work the whole time.

Regardless now, you need a new phone.

Water damage shorted out one or more components, permanently damaging them. Now, whenever energized the device has a permanent short circuit or overloaded component, which is causing the battery to drain rapidly and would also explain the hot spot or area. Basically, your electronic device is fried and needs to be replaced. Simply swapping the battery, quite honestly, was rather pointless in the first place.
