Apple Music app crashes when app loses focus

No problems launching or using Apple Music while the app has focus, but once I switch to a different app (or the launcher), Apple Music stops playing and doesn't seem to be running in the background at all (status icon disappears). Doesn't happen 100% of the time, but very very often.
