Q: apple keyboard: dead keys

I'm a having an issue with my bluetooth Apple keyboard, it's about 6 months old and the top letter keys stopped working.

Everything else seems ok, except for top row of: Q,W, E, R, T, Y, U, I and O

I'm running OS El Capitan 10.11.1 on a 2.93 ghz quad core intel xeon.
