Q: what is the best way to transfer files from and old to new computer

I am thinking of buying a new 5K Imac 27 to replace my two year old Imac 27.

What would be the best way to move my files such as e-mail, documents, music, photos etc, with out doing a full Imac to Imac transfer?

I'd like to start off fresh with the OS and then reinstall all of my program files, but transfer some files.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you had a Time Machine backup, use that and/or the Setup Assistant option. Follow the on screen instructions for "pick & choose"when transferring.

Bring home the new iMac. Boot the new iMac and when it asks if you want to copy information from another Mac, answer yes. Then connect the iMacs. In the dialogs, select to transfer your existing users from the old iMac to the new iMac.

IF I want to do a clean install on my new iMac would I use the migration assistant to just transfer files like music, photos, etc.. Then reinstall my applications?
HOw would I transfer all of my e-mail intact?
