Can the Apple Magic Keyboard work without bluetooth when wired to an iPad with the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter?

Can the Apple Magic Keyboard work without bluetooth when wired to an iPad with the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter?

I like the Apple Magic Keyboard to be very lightweight (I want to have it with me everywhere). I also like that I can choose the keyboard layout I want (Canadian Multilingual), which is not available on any keyboard for iPad of any brand except for Apple (and I made a ton of searches). I have problems with former model Apple Wireless Keyboard because of Bluetooth connection: I often have connection problems. I want a reliable keyboard. I don't care to have to plug the keyboard into the iPad and I think a wired keyboard can only be more reliable and secure than a wireless keyboard. And a wired keyboard has never battery problems.

I read the Apple Magic Keyboard can work wired with a Mac without the bluetooth. And I read some USB keyboards are working with the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. There are several keyboards having a lightning cable (e.g. Belkin or Logitech), but none with the Canadian Multilingual layout.

So, if I buy a Apple Magic Keyboard and a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter, according to my needs, will I be satisfied or I will be disappointed?

A better solution would be to have a Lightning male to male cable between the keyboard and the iPad, but I found no such product anywhere.

Thank you.

Thank you for your answer. Are you totally sure it will not work? Have you tried it?

To answer your question, I read that the keyboard work wired with a Mac at least in two reviews of the keyboard. Is it really true? I don't know however. Here are the two reviews in question:

1. 10 Things You Might Not Know About Apple’s New Magic Accessories For Macs

http://www.redmondpie.com/10-things-you-might-not-know-about-apple’s-new-magic-a ccessories-for-macs/

Please read point 4 of 10:

Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Keyboard can be used with any Mac wired via Lightning cable – one way around the Bluetooth problem is to use the Magic Trackpad plugged in via Lightning cable. The same works for the Magic Keyboard, too.

2. Mini-review: Apple’s new Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2, and Magic Trackpad 2

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/10/mini-review-apples-new-magic-keyboard-magic -mouse-2-and-magic-trackpad-2/

A paragraph inside the "Compatibility, pairing, availability, and pricing" section:

Those Lightning cables are used to recharge the accessories, but they'll also carry data when connected to your Mac. This obviates the need for separate wired and wireless versions, since any wireless accessory effectively becomes a wired accessory when you plug it in (that said, the placement of the Lightning port on the bottom of the Magic Mouse 2 makes this impractical).

I have tried it myself. I bought the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.

At the Apple Store, I tried to use the magic keyboard connected with its cable to an iMac, while bluetooth was disabled, and it didn't worked. However, at home, i tried the same thing again, on my MacBook Pro, and it did work. So I guess it didn't worked at the Apple Store because the iMac was configured to be used by clients. I confirm the reviews were right about that information.

I was hoping to get the same result with the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter and my iPad. Unfortunately, the iPad gives an error message: "Cannot Use Device. Magic Keyboard: The connected device requires too much power." On iPad, the only way to use the magic keyboard is to pair it with bluetooth.

I hope either Apple or another company will make a lightning wired keyboard as lightweight as the magic keyboard (maybe even lighter because no battery is required) by also offering Canadian Multilingual as keyboard layout (which is the same as French at a canadian Apple Store).

At last, the answer to my question is YES. However, for the Magic Keyboard to work wired with the iPad, without bluetooth, an unpowered USB hub is required.

Here is the guide that convinced me to order an unpowered USB hub:

HOW TO CONNECT ANDROID, IPAD, OR IPHONE TO A DAC

http://blog.jdslabs.com/?p=838

USB devices declare their power consumption in software, during USB enumeration (connection). Therefore, it’s easy to trick a phone or tablet by connecting the DAC to a small USB hub. With the right USB hub, your phone only reads the low power consumption of the USB hub, and not the larger power consumption of the DAC.

Please note that some USB hubs may not work. The unpowered USB hub I ordered is the "Cute USB Mini 2-Port USB 2.0 Hub Splitter" from Amazon because it is really small:

Here is another link I read about the unpowered USB hub trick:

I hope this information will help you.
