Q: Timeline clip position auto-adjust

Hi guys,

I've got a pretty straightforward question and I'm sure it'll be a simple answer.

I'm not sure what I've done, but up until now I could trim a clip on the timeline and the clip after it would automatically move to the end of the one I'd just trimmed.

Well, whatever I've done has stopped that from happening and I can't work out for the life of me how to change it back.

If anyone with a clue would like to comment below it'd be a big time saver for me.

A:

OOnly storylines have magnetism. Unless the clips are combined into a storyline, as they are in the primary storyline, the clips are completely free floating and have no connection to each other.

IF the clips are connected clips they have no magnetism unless they are combined into a secondary storyline, then they will behave like the primary storyline.

Also, not sure if this relates to the same problem but in this screenshot I've moved clip #222 in front of #185, and instead of pushing #185 along the timeline it just pushes it up.

SSame thing. Connected clips are completely separate from each other. If you combine them into a secondary, they will behave as you expect.

Actually I'm not sure I understand. Sorry. I don't want to combine the clips, I just want to rearrange them on the timeline. They always used to magnetise to eachother when I rearranged them but not I'm having to manually drag and snap the clips together.

All I've done is drag and drop them from the library browser on to the timeline but they're just not magnetising, which has never been a problem until this point.

EDIT: Ok, ignore me I worked it out! Just needed to select all the video clips, right-click, then hit "overwrite to primary storyline"

Ah, thank you. I think I was used to my entire timeline behaving like a storyline in the past, but this actually solves another problem I was having, so thanks again!
