I would definitely make sure the volume is all the way up (sounds like a no brainer). Make sure that there are no cases or screen protector covering the earpiece.
Is this every call or is it random?
I would reset all settings to see what that does. Next I would restore the iPhone through iTunes (not Erase All Content And Settings) and set up as new to determine if its software or hardware related.
If you are still under warranty, you can get the phone replaced through Apple as long as there is no damage.

Jun 3, 2016 3:31 PM in response to ttong_atxby ttong_atx,THe guy at the Apple Store cleaned it out for me With a brush and a cleaner. Works like new! I guess I need to clean my ears...
