Q: I found an iPhone 6, Please Help!

Hi Guys,

Yesterday I found an iPhone 6, it was dead flat so i charged it and it needs activation. Obviously I cant activate without the previous owners login details.

I'm not sure what to do, I can't get any useful information off the phone since its locked and my two options are:

1) Wait a few more days to see if the owner puts it in stolen mode, apparently this means a message will popup allowing me to call them.

2) Hand it over to the police to sit in a draw for 28 days before being destroyed.

The phone was in another language when i started it so they are not a local(i live in a small town) hence taking it to the police station, it will NEVER get recovered by the assumed tourist.

What do I do? If i give it to the police, the lost device please contact will most likely never get read (or do i leave a note for them to check before they destroy it and hope they remember?) They would have to connect it to WIFI to know.. I feel like they are not going to put that much effort into a lost phone, little own even know how to do it.

Please give me advice, I feel wrong handing it to the police and also wrong for holding onto it for a bit longer for the "stolen message" (if it arrives).

NEVERMIND : Ignore this question, It only makes sense to take it to the police I will do it in the morning.

    Hello ChrisMackle,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you found an iPhone and are trying to do the right thing for the user that may have lost it. You are spot on with contacting your local law enforcement agency to report it. The following article explains that this is how Apple would like you to proceed as well.

If you have lost or found an Apple product, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report it.

    Cheers!

    Hi Joe,

I have similar problem with apple ID lock. I bought iPhone from a friend who didn't explain me how that work and I factory reseted that iPhone and i now can't pass that actiavion screen because he don't know mail password or apple ID password. Is there any possibility that Apple will reset me that iPhone if he come with me to their store or licenssed seller where he bought it or sign some contract about selling or whatever Apple need to be sure that it's not stolen iPhone. I have bill, contract about telecom subscription (with VIP) and all papers that come with device. If that is possible i would like to know how much time it will take because I bought that phone for a gift not for my use and i would like to fix that till Christmas.

And last thing that I would like to know is that is there any way to send phone to Apple store with post for that because here in Rijeka,Croatia we dont have offical Apple store nearest is 150 km from here ( Zagreb,Croatia and Trst,Italy).

    Please help me and thanks

Sorry, but your friend is going to have to recover his Apple ID and password so that he can turn off the Activation Lock:

Turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support

He can go to: FORGOT APPLE ID to recover the Apple ID, then answer the security questions to reset his password.

If your friend cannot or will not follow the steps above to remove the Activation Lock, then you should get your money back. You will never be able to use the phone.

    Best of luck,
