Q: Constantly prompted to enter Apple ID/iCould password. How do I know if I have a virus?

MacBook Air running latest OS. I am constantly and repeatedly prompted to enter my Apple ID/iCloud password.  my intuition says I have a virus.  How can I clean my disk?

The iCloud login data on your drive may be corrupt. When I had essentially the same issue, Apple gave me these steps.

To reset iCloud on your Mac:

These are all in your user account, not the root Library folder.

Close all running apps. Put the following items in the trash:

    1) In the ~/Library/ folder, put the Caches folder in the trash.

    2) In the ~/Library/Application Support/ folder, put the folder iCloud in the trash.

    3) In the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder, put the file MobileMeAccounts.plist in the trash.

Restart your Mac. That should kill the popup.

So I rebooted my Mac, and am stuck on theprompt to enter my "local items" keychain. It is not accepting my password, and it will not cancel. SYstem preferences is also hosing  when I try to open iCloud. That is where I will find my user account, no?

I similar topic here for the "Local Items" keychain issue was solved this way:

    1. Open the KeyChain Access app in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder.

    2. Lock the Keychain Access app by clicking the lock on the top left corner.

    3. Unlock the Keychain. As soon as I typed my Admin Password it asked me to "Reset my iCloud KeyChain". I clicked yes because I hadn't setup my iCloud keychain yet.

    4. Restart the computer.
