Q: Canoscan 9950F not compatible with yosemite

I use the Canon CanoScan 9950F to scan 35mm negatives or positives (slides) as i now have the Canon MX530 for normal pdf or document scanning. Unfortunately I only now discover that the CanoScan no longer works with Yosemite and Canon do not support this.

Anyone an idea how I can get this working other than purchasing a new scanner? I understand that switching to El Capitan is no solution.

Thanks for your help. Replies preferably in Dutch, but I do understand English.

Have you attempted to use Image Capture as described in Mac Basics: Using a scanner - Apple Support?

Thanks, I checked that page. The scanner worked in the previous OS X version, but Canon now do not supply upgrades for Yosemite. I cannot work via Image Capture I guess as it doesn't recognize my Scanner. Note that I do not want to scan documents, I can do that via another printer - I want to scan film negatives or positives. I guess I'll have to search for new and more recent models.

If Canon chose to not update their software then you will need to look for third party scanner drivers. I would recommend looking at VueScan

Give VueScan a try as rkaufmann87 suggested. I use it for my Canon 8600F.  However, if the 64 bit version doesn't work with your scanner download and try the 32 bit version.  My scanner requires a 32 bit version.

My 9950F works perfectly with Vuescan. Note that in the instructions for installing, the canon driver has to be installed first, tits still available from Canon. The driver does not function but it provides code to Vuescan to work fully.

Thanks all. I'll ask somebody to help as I read info on software being wrapped in MacUpdate. And I am not great with that. I hope the free version works or that I can at least try it out first before purchasing.

If you create an account at MacUpdate and sign in each time the downloads will contain only the app you want and not the adware that is included in non account downloads.
