How do I store files in iCloud drive ONLY (not using space on my MACBOOK hard disk?)

I want to store file in my iCloud account but release the space in my MACBOOK hard drive

    There is no convenient way to do this.

    if you do not enable iCloud Drive on your Mac, you can upload files to iCloud Drive using the web interface at https://www.icloud.com

     

    But then you can access the files only from the web interface and will not see iCloud Drive as a drive in the Finder.  So you cannot use the Finder to access the files. You will have to download them to use them.

    it seems the solution rests with APPLE as they should implement a feature similar to DROPBOX whereby I could mark files or folders as CLOUD only. I would then still have the other files available as a folder in my desktop and download the rest only when needed.
