How do I store passwords on my Macbook Pro so they are secure? I would like to keep my huge list of passwords on a document on my computer but am worried that they won't be secure. I have a Macbook Pro with retina display OSX 10.9.5

In addition to Niel'ssuggestions, checkout 1Password. I have used it for years and it is extremely convenient. It allows you to sync to web, your iOS devices, your Android devices, etc.
I don't know how to create an encrypted disc image nor how to access it once I do...I am new at this! Thanks, martha
iPassword seems to be made for phones and tablets. There wasn't a link for the macbook pro in iTunes... any suggestions? Thanks Martha
It is essentially the same procedure as: Password Protected Folders in OS X.

That is because you don't go to iTunes to download apps for your Mac, you can use the Mac App Store for that.
Other options
Old school--- > Print it out & keep in a safe place. A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.😉 Also helpful when you cannot get pass the log-in screen. 😉
New school---> Get a password manager utility. Highly recommend 1Password which is shareware. Another good password manager utility is Dashlane. Best of all, it's FREE!
Do a Google search for free password managers.

I left iTunes. googled "mac app store" and it took me to apple.com. I searched for iPassword and there were no results. Is there a specific website for the mac app store?
Click on the App Store icon which is on your Dock.
Click here and follow the instructions; the image can be accessed like a regular disk or file.

What app do you use to store your passwords "on a document"? If you use Pages or Numbers, you can password protect the document within those apps using the File option on the Menu Bar. There is a Set Password option.
