How powered? USB or from separate wall outlet?
Does it show in Disk Utility?
Does it show in System Profiler. If USB it would be under USB.
OS X: About System Information and System Profiler - Apple Support
Bothe the enclosure/chip should show as well as the disk
USB powered, II've checked in system preferences it's showing the external in the usb device tree, but still cannot see it on the desktop
Does it show in Disk Utility?
What exactly is show in System Profiler?
Try clicking on Go in your Finder menu and open Utilities. Click on Disk Utilitiy, and your connected HDs should show up with you internal drive at the top and the attached one underneath (click on the lower one if there are two showing). It may be dimmed if it is not showing up on your desktop, but you can click on it and then click on First Aid in the menu at the top and Disk Utility will check for errors and repair them. Your external HD should then show up on your desktop.Good luck!
Its showing the drive, It's saying SMART STATUS : not supported
PARTITION MAP SCHEME : unformatted. It's worked before this
Yu say it Dish Utility says "unformatted". To be used the disk has to be formatted in a format that the mac recognizes.
The disk has to be formatted. It could be that the disk failed.
Try formatting the disk in Mas format.
It is normal for an external USB-connected drive to show SMART not supported
can I format without losing data on external HD, how do I format disk in mad format
The disk is essentially erased now.
Try a disk recovery app:
you can download a demo of Data Rescue 4, and the demo will give you an idea of what it can recover. If it looks promising, you then can buy the software.
I Can see data and movies on TVs but not on Mac
Can a PC read and write to the disk now?
For a PC to recognize it it has to be formatted. A Mac in Disk Utility will report a format the Mac can't use.
TTried in a PC it was find but then crashing or slowing the device down
What crashed? What slowed down?
YYeah it slowed down then not showed up, but placed on ISB IN TV IT SHOWED movies and stuff up
Sounds like the disk is failing but some parts can be read by the TV.
I would save an data to another disk now.
A disk recovery app may help
Hi, you answered this question and I have the same problem but no one has been able to get me as far as you have! So in Disk Utility I clicked on the dimmed Lacie drive, ran First Aid. But afterwards the disk didn't show up in Finder or on the Desktop. I clicked on the "mount" button" and that did nothing. If I go to "File" then "Open disk image" I can see inside the disk, open folders but all the documents are dimmed and won't open. This is a drive I have used to back up with Time Machine regularly (up until a little over 2 months ago when it stopped "seeing" it) Also when I plug my iPhone into a USB it shows up in iTunes but not on the finder but I can update the phone.
