Apple TVIntermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
The following article(s) may help you.

Dec 5, 2015 12:07 PM in response to Winston Churchillby tylerfromsan francisco,Thanks, WC, I'll check that out, but I really don't think that's the issue. The fact it started with the 4g Apple TV makes me skeptical. Any other input on how it might be related to Apple TV 4 and a related setting?

Dec 5, 2015 2:37 PM in response to tylerfromsan franciscoby mechanic43,I have the exact same issue, I am playing back from iTunes on a local computer a movie that was purchased through apple, and the move plays then stops then plays then stops, it is really irritating, I can hook up my ATV 3 and it plays back just fine. All of my ATV's are connected to a gigabit ethernet and direct wired to the computer (a mac pro) serving the movies from a Promise pegasus R4. My network is not the problem, The problem seems to be that the ATV 4 is not buffering the movie at all. Where the 3rd generation is.

Dec 6, 2015 9:43 AM in response to Winston Churchillby mechanic43,Yes it is I have had the issue with the download and watch later issue and with streaming it off of my iTunes library. There is a whole thread of these movies stopping issues here in the forums. It happens with both download and watch later and streaming over a local network from your iTunes library.

Nope, read the OP's lips.
I purchase moves though Apple TV and choose the "download and watch later" option.
Does that sound as though they are watching them from the computer to you.

Dec 7, 2015 5:17 PM in response to Winston Churchillby mechanic43,I also said mine does it from a local iTunes library as well as when I download it directly to my apple tv. "Yes it is I have had the issue with the download and watch later issue and with streaming it off of my iTunes library." From my lips to you.

Dec 7, 2015 5:36 PM in response to mechanic43by Winston Churchill,So when the OP says they have problems with both it might be the same problem then, on the information we have it isn't, each scenario suggests a different area to start looking. It may be the case that the OP has issues streaming from their computer and hasn't noticed, but let's not go assuming this.
