Q: Itunes Error - iTunes cannot connect to Store Purchases - If you have any firewall software, make sure it has been set to allow communication on port 443.

My itunes has been fine. All of a sudden today it's now giving me this error: Itunes Error - iTunes cannot connect to Store Purchases - If you have any firewall software, make sure it has been set to allow communication on port 443.

I don't have my firewall turned on. I logged out of itunes, quit itunes, logged back in - still a problem.

Was there an update and this is now a bug? HELP!

Thanks!

While the error message no longer appears, though it stopped appearing in the earlier version of iTunes, this update did NOT work for me, in that  purchased movies and TV shows still don't play, (black, no sound).

    +1

This problem started happening for me over a week ago with that message popping up intermittently, but not constantly. After upgrading to El Capitan 10.11.2, the problem did not go away, unfortunately. However, I can play all of my music and movies. So, while I get that error, it doesn't seem to actually prevent me from playing or downloading anything.

I have been having the same problem on a brand-new MacBook. All software is up-to-date.

Since it's the HTTPS port that isn't "working," I wonder if this has anything to do with the SHA-1 sunsetting?

Just saw this error for the first time.  This is also the first time I have tried to connect to the iTunes store since applying the latest Apple Security Update (as another user earlier in this thread also mentioned). I also just upgraded to the latest version of Safari.

On the surface this makes sense.  However, if this is the case then the problem should be much more pervasive and the tech media would have picked up on it by now.

I think the scope is much narrower and affecting particular users' Apple IDs based on the evidence in this thread (that this is happening across multiple computers using the same Apple IDs).  Most likely this is an authentication problem between the Store Purchases servers and Apple ID servers. I think the error message is misleading and it could very well be an RPC/XPC connection timeout rather than a connection attempt failure.

This is all speculation of course.

was having this problem on my otherwise fine Win10 desktop. I did go and change by CC online as my bank recently upgraded our cards to the ones with chips in them and the numbers changed. seemed to solve the problem for the moment. Odd that would cause a port error, but hopefully this solved it.

Worth trying if you have a new card

Perhaps it's not pervasive, but we already have 10 pages of complaints.

I am having the same problem. It just appeared today after installing OS 9.2 on my iPhone 6 and IPad 2 Air. I am running iTunes 12.31.23 and Security Update 2015-005 on OS X 10.10.5.

It seems to have gone away once I reset my iTunes cache and warnings in the advanced preferences of iTunes as well as reconnected to my Time Machine Backup.

Not sure if it will return...

This has also started to happen to me as well .. looks as though it started after the El Capitan 10.11.2 update, and so I suspect it's an Apple OS X bug.

It doesn't always apple for me, but does so reliably the first time I start iTunes after a reboot.

Your frustration doesn't help anyone or anything, especially yourself.

You can guarantee that people are working to resolve these issues, its just taking time.

Patience, above all, is something you should focus on.

Same issue here since 12/8. Movie rental stopped playing in the middle of the film (apparently didn't get billed either). Re-renting and downloading worked but screen stays black. Can't access purchases in iTunes. Editing account/billing info prompts download of said rental but it still cannot be played.

MBP, wired (no Wi-Fi), no USB or other hardware attached

Yosemite 10.10.5 (latest update didn't help)

it's (also) a dev machine and JDK 8 was installed same day this message started popping up

    /var/log/system.log shows (repeatedly):

iTunes[1900]: 15:46:50.602 ERROR:     >aq> AudioQueueObject.cpp:1573: Prime: Exiting because mConverterError is 'nope' (0x5622 req, 0x0 primed)

when trying to play a film and then it seemingly tries to file a crash report.

I spoke too soon.  Got up this morning, woke up the computer and there was the lovely error message.  Again.  *sighs quietly*
