How long is a macbook pro charger supposed to last? The light on the little piece that plugs into my macbook was intermittently lighting up - sometimes dependent on my moving it around. Now I can't get it to light up at all. Do these chargers have a limited life span?

There is not set life. Sometime you get failure by rough handling which breaks wires/connections. Sometimes the electronics fail because electronic devices just fail. Most fail aft many years but some just fail after short period of time.
The oldest that I have is about seven years old and still in service. I use it every day. A small sample but they can last a long time unless you abuse them.
