Q: How can I move SOME songs from my ipad to my ipod?

I just want to do something quite simple.  I have an ipad with some music on it and an ipod with some music on it.  I just want to move some songs from my ipad to my ipod, why is such a simple operation so impossible in itunes?

I can't sync my ipad because itunes wants to wipe it and sync whats already on my computer to it (wrong).

I can't sync my ipod with different music for the same reason.

This is the worst music management tool I have ever used.

Seems that you have not transferred music from your devices to your iTunes library. That is why you are experiencing that message in iTunes. Music is synced to devices with iTunes from the iTunes library, unless you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, in which case you can turn on automatic syncing between devices. If you are using different Apple IDs on the devices, then you would have to authorize them both for your content. Your music should be backed up in your iTunes library on the computer. Also, if this is purchased music, you can download from either device, again, depending on your Apple ID situation.

All your music should be in iTunes on your computer.  If you have music that's on your iPad that's not in your iTunes library, then:

Once you have everything in iTunes, create and maintain a backup of your library so that you can always recover it in cases of corruption or hardware failure.

On the second point, all iDevices have a built-in limitation in that they can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.  If you connect an iDevice to a computer that has a different iTunes library, it will erase all media on the device before syncing.  It's not "wrong", just the way it is ... the general assumption is that this is a restriction imposed by media companies to prevent the use of iPods, etc. for illicit file sharing.

iTunes is - once you understand how it works - actually very simple to use.  As above, make sure all your media is in your iTunes library, maintain a backup of this, and ensure that you're always syncing content to your iDevices from the same library.
