Q: installing memory

I am trying to upgrade to El Captain but not enough memory. My computer is a 2008 early model, Leopard OSX. Computer was recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and I need more memory to upgrade to El Captain. Since I am going to access the memory card panel to add more memory I decided I would install it's max. capacity of 4GB (2/2GB cards) so that I will never need to access the panel again. Computer came with 1GB installed.

My computer specs are: (SO-DIMM) format, 800 MHz, PC2-6400, DDR2 compliant, unbuffered and unregistered. I purchased "PNY- make life simple" brand. I have 2 cards each has 2GB of PC memory, 800 MHz, PC2-6400. The package reads, "ideal for laptops and windows8 compatible". The package does not specify the formatting. Is it safe to install into my computer? I questioned Best Buy sales clerk and checked with the Geek Squad but I still don't trust their knowledge, especially since the package reads "compatible with Windows8" Can someone please tell me if my computer will be safe to install these memory cards?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), upgraded from leopard OS X
