If you mean you're specifically looking for 10.11.0, and not what will currently download (10.11.1), you can no longer get it. Apple only makes the latest point release available.

That is not true. You can get 10.11.4 and 10.11.3 on the uploads page so it simply is not the case that Apple "only makes the latest point release available". The problem I'm having is that those releases state you have to have 10.11.0 first to upgrade to 10.11.3-5. Ok fine but there is NO link on the app store or via Apple's site to a download for 10.11.0. I mean truly.... w t f?

Look at the date of the discussion you are responding to...

When you download El Capitan from the Mac App Store now (and it certainly is there, under the name OS X El Capitan), you'll get 10.11.5 directly. The releases you are referring to are updaters, and those need a previous version to be able to work.

No, you cannot get 10.11.0. Also, no, you cannot get 10.11.1, 10.11.2, 10.11.3, or 10.11.4 as a fully installable OS. Downloading El Capitan from the App Store will always get you whatever, and only whatever is the latest release. At this time, it's 10.11.5.

The items you found are updates. You cannot install 10.11.3 from that updater (as an example) without having 10.11.0 through 10.11.2 already on your Mac. You can't use the 10.11.3 updater to go from Mavericks 10.9.x or any other older version of OS X directly to 10.11.3.

I can get 10.11.4, but only because my El Capitan USB installer has not been updated to 10.11.5. Should you make a separate USB installer at every upgrade, then and only then can you get those specific versions of the El Capitan OSX.

Yes, figured as such given the installer automatically installs base version and then all updates available. Also, Apple support confirmed this yesterday when I spoke with them. What is meant by 'USB' installer - is this a reference to an external jump drive that might have been made containing the software such as a USB powered portable drive???

Yes, it is a USB drive that has on it the installation instructions for a given OSX.

The "instructions" or the installer software AND the actual OSX 10.11.x software itself ??? Ex., I did something like that on a LaCie firewire external drive a year ago or so as an emergency startup disk. And I know there was a time when the OS software bundle was small enough to fit on a couple of DVDs. Is that along the lines of what you mean?

I was on OSX 10.5 when I began my updating adventure ...and this was months ago when I first tried to get Capitan actually. I gave up after initial tries failed re same problem. I tried exactly that at first - going to Mac App store and attempting to update directly from there - and received messages saying I had to have 10.11.x to update. Even the button itself displayed a different command then than the command it displayed yesterday when I was finally able to successfully update. I have to wonder - given Apple support told me over the phone yesterday that they have been getting a lot of calls re this and I am not the only one who had problems here with this - that there maybe was a bug there for a while re how that GET button behaved. Anyway, yes - it will install 10.11 and all updates available.
