What is the difference between move and copy?

I want to move all of my iMovie files from my computer to an external hard drive. I can either 'move' them or 'copy 'them. What is the difference? Does 'move' delete the original and copy leave the original?

iMovie 10, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Yes.

Its advisable always to have an up to date backup of your existing library(ies). If you don't have a backup it's wise to copy, make sure everything is working OK in the new library on the external drive, and only then delete the copy on the internal drive.

Have a good look at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.1/#/mov3fa25bae7 for details.

I'm not sure about Mac, but it should be the same. This is basic file maintenance. Move is just what it sounds like. Move takes something from one location and moves it to the other place. Yes, it removes it from the first place, and places it in the second place. Copy, is where you copy content in one place and put a copy of it in the second place.

I hope that answers your question.
