Not in iTunes
If you don‘t see your connected device in iTunes for Mac
or
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

I'm using OS 10.10.5 with iTunes 12
Last time I synced I think I was on Yosemite with iTunes 10 or 11.
I wish Apple would just say "You can't sync your old iPod with the El Capitan and iTunes 12" if that is the case.
I've done a lot of searching and found nothing on the subject.
